The Allegheny Conference on Community Development is one of the nation’s leading economic and community development organizations. The Conference brings together public and private sector leaders around a shared regional agenda designed to improve the economic future and quality of life of the 10-county Pittsburgh region.


Our Position:

We are seeking a Vice President of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion to join our team. This position will help plan, develop, and implement the overall inclusion and diversity strategies that advances the Conference’s agenda. This position will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer.

  • An established and astute professional with deep research-based content knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusiveness best practices that are benchmarked against organizations that have been successful in advancing DEI agenda.
  • A highly motivated professional with a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion consistent with demonstration of behavior embodying a work philosophy of dignity and respect.
  • A proven professional with persuasive written and oral communication skills; the ability able to build credibility at all levels of the organization and community.
  • A skilled professional who utilizes data and analytics to inform, drive and measure progress; able to prepare effective reports for internal and external audiences.
  • A skilled professional with strong organizational skills; able to manage multiple projects.
  • A collaborative-driven leader, experience working with, supporting and leading task teams and committees, especially as a peer leader or leader among leaders in a civic, business, or association setting.



  • Advises and works with the Chief Executive Officer and the Senior Leadership team to define the overarching vision, strategy and tactics for becoming a more diverse, equitable and inclusive organization.
  • Serves as a thought leader inside and outside of the Conference on all aspects of diversity, equity and inclusion, bringing innovative ideas and best practices to our region, members, and communities.
  • Supports the CEO and Talent/PRA team to help establish and cultivate relationships of trust and respect with our external partners aiming to advance a DEI strategy that furthers our goals of engaging, attracting and retaining a more diverse workforce in the region.
  • Partners with the Communication & Marketing department to expand topics relating to DEI included in conferences, webinars, publications, podcasts, and other appropriate avenues. Works to assure diversity of participants, speakers and sponsors at the various Conference events.
  • Works closely with Advocacy/Chamber and Strategy & Research teams to ensure our policy agenda matches our DEI strategy and efforts.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with diversity and inclusion professionals and stakeholders, to ensure an impactful implementation of the DEI initiatives within the region.
  • Collaborates with HR and other internal departments to integrate DEI into its practices, processes, and policies at every stage of the employee life cycle.
  • Evaluates data to identify trends and barriers to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Serves as staff lead for both the Board and Internal Racial Equity task force.



    • BA/BS in business, education, or related field or comparable experience in diversity, equity and inclusion.
    • 5+ years of progressive experience in providing leadership in advancing DEI initiatives, consulting and/or change management.
    • Bilingual abilities are a plus.
    • Knowledge of community economic development, including workforce, business attraction, expansion, and retention with a special emphasis on commercial and industrial development a plus.
